INTENTIONS
« Joy is the augmentation of our potencial of being » Spinoza, L’Ethique
This new piece examines joy as a physical and existential statement. Joy as a potential for creation and a strenght for resisting. Through an exploration of medieval images, trivial ditties and grotesque paintings, Muyte Maker celebrates disobedient, abnormal and irrational bodies.
Singing copiously, laughing polyphonically, dancing blindnessly, chatting cacophonously, four woman bodies attempt to render the full complexity of their own bodies.
In continuation of my previous works, peuplements (2013), Gesächt (2014) a n d TUTUGURI (2017), I keep on exploring the possibilities of voice. Performers with whom I choose to collaborate with, are as dancers as musicians. We approach dance under a musical perspective.
Medieval polyphonies.
The songs come from medieval and early Renaissance era, from various composers like Claudin de Sermisy, Jacob Clemens non Papa, Passereau, among others.
Blaison of the ugly tits, satire on marriage, songs about excrements, the scabrous lyrics confronting with movements reveal contradictions upon woman’s representation, and about bodies in general.
Frontiere between daily situations and music.
Muyte Maker intends to multiplicate voice potentials from banal situations, such as talks, singing, gossips, rumours, laughs, jokes, building musical tensions between fullness and emptiness.
Togetherness and diferences.
Poliphony and polyrythm allow us to approach the question of being together mainting our own voice. How to be together in a joyfull mood ? Which kind of movement does it create ?
Transformation and distorsion.
Dance is expanded through the ambiguity of what we see and what we hear, creating both landscapes and soundscapes intensively inhabited by figures, entities, and situations.
Set and space.
The four women are sit with their hairs attached to sickles and axes. Working as a peculiar machine responding to the performer’s movements, this ambiguous set can evoque a torture instrument, a game of pleasure or a musical support.

The ancient flamish expression MUYTE MAKER means mutiny, but also bird’s cage.
