Bernardo Chatillon is a rather peculiar artist on the Portuguese scene. He has a vast and diverse technical and artistic education – from circus to theater and dance. It is worth noting, in this beautiful and sensible piece, his ability to use autobiographical references and scenographic elements that at first glance might seem banal, reshaping them, showing that every gesture, every word, every leap, every look, every breath, in a certain context, is a world that can be transformed.

REINDEER AGE investigates what enchants us today, from poetry to artifice, from magical objects to hidden systems, from harmless distraction to domination.

REINDEER AGE #1 is the second episode of this series that starts from the memory of when I was a child and felt the euphoria of going on vacation with my parents and at the same time the fear and feeling that the vacation might not happen. What to do with this? Is it possible to lose the trace of something that was never lost?

To explore this complex intertwining of worlds, I decided to go and live in a motorhome, following the thoughts proposed by Carlo Rovelli in his book, The Order of Time, where he invites us to reflect on the following questions: “Why do we remember the past and not the future? What does the ‘flow’ of time mean? Do we exist in time or does time exist within us?”, as well the somatic writing exercises proposed by poet and author CA Conrad’s, which investigates this seemingly infinite space between body and spirit, using almost any possible thing to channel the body out and/or into the spirit with deliberate and sustained concentration, and the book Fall of Heaven: Words of a Yanomami Shaman that question the notion of progress and development.

BERNARDO CHATILLON attended the Professional School of Performing Arts and Crafts (Chapitô). He debuted as an actor in 2005. Between 2006 and 2009 he joined F.I.A in C.E.M (Accompanied Intensive Training), where he participated in several projects with Sofia Neuparth, Peter Michael Dietz, Ainhoa Vidal, Mariana Lemos, Carlos Zingaro, Vitor Rua, Thienry Simões, among others. In 2006 he performs his first solo São Ualocin at the Pedras d’Água Urban Festival.

He currently lives between Berlin and Lisbon. In Berlin, he completed his Masters in Solo / Dance / Authorship (SODA) at the Inter-University Center for Dance Berlin (HZT / UDK). In 2018 he developed and presented the show What Is Already Here at the Ponderosa Artistic Center, within the framework of the Ponderosa Tanzland Festival, in Berlin. In November 2019 he performed the show Reindeer Age #0 at Uferstudios in Berlin and June 2021 at T.B.A, in Lisbon, and at PT.21 produced by O Espaço do Tempo.

He has continued to carry out his work developing projects through artistic practices, meetings and shows that question and frame the notion of Magical Thinking associated with the notions of Worlding and New Materialism.
